WANTED: A Meaningful Ministry
There will be a cost, you know, but there will also be great rewards. Stephen Ministry is our congregation's one-to-one caring ministry. Right now we're looking for members who are willing to pay the (cost): Commitment, Of Self and Time and become Stephen Ministers, remembering that the blessings will outweigh the costs. To find out more about this ministry, please contact Sue Wells at 913.385.7796, Joan Davidson at 913.432.8921, Kathy Peters at 913.722.6973, Pastor Boehnke or Pastor Oestmann. A class is starting in January for those interested in being a Stephen Minister. Matching is an important part of what Stephen Ministry is all about. Those who are interested in serving are matched with the best job for them. Those who need care are matched with the best caregiver for them. So if you are looking for a way to serve, be a Stephen Minister. Stephen ministers are available if you would like one to visit you.

Help provide relief to the homeless. "Feed the need" bags are available at both campuses. These bags include a small selection of non-perishable food. Keep a bag in your car, and you’ll be prepared next time you come across someone that needs help. Several Trinity members have already mentioned they handed out a bag and it felt great to help someone! Please join us in providing relief to the homeless.

Your church offerings are a critical part of Trinity’s 2008 Operational Budget. In order to fund the ministries that we support at Trinity we will need $1,269,000 this year. For the month of December alone, the budgeted receipts needed are $271,741.70; this amount is twice the amount of a normal month’s receipts. End of year giving has historically been the largest month for Trinity. And these amounts will be used to fund various missions around the city. Please continue with your generous giving, and have a Merry Christmas!

See Through the Scriptures

Start 2009 with a 1-day walk through the Bible. It unfolds the entire biblical panorama from Genesis to Christ, the story of God’s amazing patience and forgiving grace for his people, then and now. “See Through the Scriptures” shows God’s plan for humanity in time and eternity. It will be a one-day seminar that underscores the importance of understanding all that preceded Jesus, in order to grasp the truly immense and earth-shattering nature of his life and ministry. Pastor Ron will lead. Cost is $10 per person. Questions, contact Deb Hartje. What a great way to fulfill a New Year’s resolution to spend more time in God’s word!

Monday, January 12
SAM (Single Adult Ministry) will hold their Monday night dinner at Carol Doms, 7144 Dearborn, Shawnee Mission, KS, at 7 pm. Meat will be provided so please bring a dish to share and let Annette or Janice Kramer know if you plan on attending at 913.677.4934.

Were you able to worship at the Ritz Charles back in November? What an awesome way to spend time together as God’s family. It was also a time when we were called to be generous and to make our pledges for the coming year. Read more on the Life Management webpage.

See the Health Ministry webpage for some health tips about Flu season, and about staying healthy during Holiday Gatherings.

An estimated 225-250 individuals have been participating in weekly Bible studies or other nurturing events. The total participation count is 361, with the 225-250 count being estimated after accounting for individuals attending more than one event. These numbers will be used to provide a baseline going into 2009 to measure progress.

Harvesters need canned goods!
Did you know that some people choose between food and prescription medications? Food supplies are extremely low due to the recent economic downturn. Please help by bringing cans to either campus, now through Thanksgiving. Thank you!

Because you helped in the past, over 400 hygiene kits have already been delivered in 2008 to the Willa Gill Multi-Service Center in Kansas City, KS and Grace United Community Services at 801 Benton in Kansas City, MO. Now Ruth Hanusch (913.262.8967) has secured a Thrivent Financial for Lutherans hands-on activity grant for Rebekah Circle to purchase toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors and combs in preparation to complete another 100 or more hygiene kits. We are in need of small lotions, soaps and shampoo. If you have traveled recently and brought home these items from your stay, we need you to donate them now to help us prepare for this activity. Leave them in the wicker basket by the food bin at the entrance to church. Thank you in advance for being part of this ministry.

How can we keep our reputation as a friendly church? See the Outreach webpage for some answers!

Simply Giving
Would you find it helpful to have your offerings debited directly from your bank account as you probably do with other obligations? Trinity Lutheran offers electronic giving for those of you who wish to have your contributions transferred electronically to the church’s account. If you travel, this is particularly helpful in keeping up with your intended offerings. One simple, easy to use authorization form can begin or change your electronic contribution amount. Contact Dianna Sutton in the church office for details: 913.563.5207 or dianna@tlcms.org.

You can tell us your faith-sharing story or just tell us that you shared your faith with a neighbor, simple as that. We are collecting these stories and events to encourage and to be intentional in our desire to become fearless in making Christ known. Read more here.
Listening ...A valuable skill, yet so often forgotten. Almost everyone has a story to tell, and they just want someone to listen. Proverbs 18:13: "He who answers before listening -- that is his folly and his shame." James 1:19 "My dear brothers, take note of this: everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak..."
A recent parenting class suggested that the three most important words when communicating with children are...”Tell Me More”. The people below need a good listener. As the hymn says, “They will know we are Christians by our love.” Listening is a great expression of a caring spirit. Please read the report on the Outreach webpage, and be the one Christian friend...that really listens.
