Organ Expansion Project Update
The major fundraising goals for the pipe organ expansion that was planned and set into motion in January, 2002 have been met. Thanks to all who have given to the Organ Fund and designated gifts, which will fund the bulk of the project. Senior Pastor Lee Hovel, Director of Music Ministries Pamela Castrey and Organist Anna Myeong have approved the proposal from Quimby Pipe Organs, Inc. to expand the organ to 32 ranks, including adding a new division of pipes along the back wall, and replacement of the existing console with a new 3-manual console (3 keyboards). Rick Deasley is the consultant for the project. Completion of the project is slated for December, 2009. The grille cloth covering the existing pipework in the center of the sanctuary’s back wall will be taken down, and a new organ chamber grille made of wood will be placed there to improve the dispersion of the sound from the existing organ chamber. (See the drawing at left for a visual illustration.) The exact look of the grillework can be determined in consultation with Trinity artists using visual elements that would tie in with existing architectural features already present in the sanctuary.

The console which controls the organ is currently under construction in the Quimby factory. The picture at left shows the holes in the stop jambs for the stop knobs. No keyboards are yet in place. The picture at right shows the roll top cover in place. There is no finish on the wood yet. The finish will be similar to the existing console to match the other woodwork in the sanctuary. |

The new 3-manual console will be movable, and will have a lower vertical profile than the current 2-manual console (see picture of a finished console built for another church at right). Two accessories for the project remain to be funded. One is the chimes, which have been specifically inquired about by several members during the planning process. The other is called a zimbelstern, which is a device composed of rotating bells which add a brilliant sheen, especially to festive music. These accessories together will add approximately $10,000 to the project cost. If you are interested in helping to add these “crowning glories” to the organ, prayerfully consider a gift to the organ fund by specifying “organ fund” on the outside of an offering envelope. The pipe
organ is an instrument that can last for generations when properly maintained.
Its very presence in the sanctuary is a visual, audible and enduring testament
of permanence to the community in an era of instant gratification and
constant change. It will support the praise of children, grandchildren
and their heirs for decades to come. Those people in Trinity’s past
and present who have given to support the presence of a pipe organ are
to be thanked and commended for their foresight and generosity. There
will be more details on the project in this space as it develops. |

We
are so pleased with our new purchase of a Yamaha C-2 model baby grand for
the East campus Worship Center. The piano is a black satin ebony 5’
8” conservatory model baby grand purchased from Schmitt Music in Overland
Park. It is the top-of-the-line Yamaha piano model of its size preferred
over other brands by many artists. Donated non-budget music funds were used for this purchase. Our Fine Arts Academy monies also helped to fund this project. This addition will encourage the possibilities for professional recitals, concerts, guest artist workshops and, most importantly, the enhancement of our music in worship. Our music staff will make new efforts in using this instrument in all services. We are grateful to all of you who helped to make this dream a reality! Many thanks for all of your support and appreciation of our church music program and Fine Arts Academy. The music groups at Trinity are excited about this instrument and how it will expand our ministries. We are so blessed! |

A music CD geared towards outreach is titled “Light of Healing and Hope”. The songs
on the CD have a varied instrumentation. The musicians involved in the
recording were drawn from both campuses, as well as several guests. An
production run of 5,000 CD's was produced, due to the generous anonymous
gift specifically for this purpose from a Trinity member. |
