About Trinity History
It is because of our rich past and confidence in God's continuing faithfulness that Trinity stands poised to meet the challenges and opportunities that await us as we move forward in the 21st century.
Throughout its history the members of Trinity have demonstrated:
- A spirit of unity and hard work, typified by those early members who were willing to give of their time, energy, money, and skills to help build the first chapel.
- A commitment to Christian education. Trinity was one of the first congregations in Synod to have a full-time Director of Christian Education on its staff, conduct a Christian preschool, and provide a facility where quality part-time Christian education could take place.
- A heart for missions, by not only making the financial support of missions a high budget priority, but also by assisting in the establishment of a number of new Lutheran congregations in northeast Johnson County, and through the direct support of six missionaries serving overseas.
- A concern for the poor and oppressed. During its over sixty-five-year history, Trinity's members have sponsored seven refugee families plus several other individuals from such countries as Hungary, Vietnam, Laos, and Afghanistan. The members of Trinity have also been strong supporters of Metropolitan Lutheran Ministries and a wide variety of other social action projects.
- A willingness to take risks and try new things. Trinity was one of the first churches in the Synod to have a Director of Christian Education, to host a Religious Art Show, to have a Minister of Spiritual Gifts, to conduct a Contemporary Worship Service, and to erect a bold sign and monument on the corner of Nall and Shawnee Mission Parkway.
