Dr. Michael Bauer is the Assoc. Professor of Organ, Church Music, Choral Conducting and Harpsichord at the University of Kansas. Dr. Bauer also has training in theology and church architecture and founded a Christian arts organization: Imago Dei, Friends of Christianity and the Arts. Dr. Bauer received organ training at the Eastman School of Music while in high school. His bachelor’s and master’s degrees were obtained at the University of Alabama while his doctorate is from the University of Cincinnati’s College--Conservatory of Music. Since he arrived at KU in 1987 he has founded and developed a new doctoral program in church music. Currently, he is the organist at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Bennington, NE.

Dr. Bauer is married to the former Director of Music Ministry at Trinity, Marie Rubis, who is currently the Cathedral Organist and Director of Music Ministry at Saint Cecilia Cathedral in Omaha. Together they have released a CD of organ works by Petr Eben on the Calcante label. Dr. Bauer has led three KU European Organ Study Tours to the Netherlands, France and Germany. He has written articles for numerous music journals and continues to lecture and perform. Trinity welcomes Dr. Bauer as speaker for this year’s Christianity and Culture series.
